Lines and Wrinkles
As an individual ages, collagen and elastin in the skin that once gave firmness and a youthful glow, begin to deplete causing skin to lose its natural firmness and elasticity.
Lines & Wrinkles
What are lines and wrinkles?
A natural reduction in the body’s production of collagen in the skin (the product responsible for elasticity and youthfulness) can lead to more lines and wrinkles as we get older. Wrinkles, folds and lines usually begin to first appear around the eyes, forehead and mouth. These defects are an inevitable sign of ageing, but can really add years onto your look as they get deeper and more pronounced.
When a person laughs, squints or frowns, their facial muscles contract, and after years of frequent contraction, combined with environmental and lifestyle factors, such as exposure to the sun and smoking, lines and wrinkles gradually begin to form and can get deeper. There are two ‘types’ of wrinkles that can be treated at our clinic, and each type has a slightly different cause. These are known as dynamic wrinkles and static wrinkles.
Dynamic wrinkles form where the skin naturally creases due to smiling, frowning and everyday facial expressions. When wrinkles start to develop they typically do so in the frown, forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes. Dynamic wrinkles are only present while the muscle contracts. With treatment, these types of wrinkles can be almost completely reversed and smoothed out.
These types of wrinkles come after dynamic wrinkles; static wrinkles are the next stage in the development of wrinkles. This is when they become deeper and more ingrained into the skin. Static wrinkles remain visible even when your face is resting. With treatment, static wrinkles cannot be totally reversed, but they can be drastically improved.
What helps wrinkles go away?
At Aesthetics of Liverpool, we have a vast portfolio of treatments to help get wrinkles out of your face. Wrinkles, particularly forehead wrinkles, may be inevitable but they do not need to be permanent. Thousands of people correct wrinkles in their face every day, and if this is something that has been bothering you too we can help make those wrinkles go away.
There are a number of professional skin treatments designed to address fine lines and wrinkles, and even help prevent them in future to help you regain your youthful, glowing skin. These treatments to combat wrinkles include anti-ageing injectable treatments such as Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment and dermal fillers. There are also treatments designed to strip back ageing skin and encourage collagen production, such as Laser Resurfacing, Medical Microdermabrasion, Hydra Facial, Co2 Laser, E-light, Skin Peels and our very own Precision Lift Skin Pen.
What are collagen and elastin?
Collagen is a protein which is present throughout the body, especially in the connective tissues and the skin. It’s what gives our skin its structure and firmness. Elastin is also a protein, whose main characteristic is elasticity; it allows the skin to bounce back to its original smoothness after being stretched or contracted, it is these proteins which requires an accelerated boost in production, in order to achieve effective results when a client is suffering from lines and wrinkles.
How can Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment get rid of wrinkles?
Botulinum Toxin is a protein, which in turn, has been extracted from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. When used in a small therapeutic clinical dose it is a very safe and effective treatment. Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment works to immobilise the nerve tissue connected to the muscles in the face as when the targeted muscles are not permitted to move, wrinkles are not created or made worse.
Will Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment make me look ‘frozen’?
When Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment was first used, there was a general fear that it would make people look frozen. This wasn’t helped by celebrities that adopted unnatural smiles and ‘frozen’ foreheads when trying to minimise forehead wrinkles. However, now experienced practitioners understand how botox should be administered properly to achieve natural results while still minimising wrinkles.
How much does Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment hurt?
Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment is injected by a needle, so you will feel a small scratch as the needle goes in and a mild stinging sensation as the botox is inserted. We can use numbing creams to help ease the discomfort. To learn more about Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment please visit our Wrinkle Relaxing Treatment page.
How can dermal fillers get rid of wrinkles?
From birth, we have ample amounts of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) in our body which helps to support and firm our skin. As we get older, our stores of HA reduce and this allows more lines and wrinkles develop, making us appear older. By lifting and smoothing targeted folds and wrinkles by adding volume, dermal fillers can plump and smooth out wrinkles to help make us look more youthful.
How safe are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are used throughout the world every day and are very safe. In terms of the actual procedure, you will experience a mild discomfort. No one likes the feeling of an injection, but it is a small scratch as the needle goes in and then a slight stinging sensation will be felt as the filler is injected. We can use numbing anaesthetic to treat the area to help minimise discomfort.
Compared with invasive face lifts or implants, there are no cuts, stitches or incisions, so the small amount of discomfort is outweighed by the outstanding results. For more information on dermal fillers to combat wrinkles, please visit our dermal fillers page here.
How can I prevent wrinkles?
Ageing skin is a part of life, but there are some measures we can take to help slow the process down, such as:
- Wear sunscreen daily.
- Wear a wide-brimmed sun hat and sunglasses.
- Use skincare products containing anti-ageing ingredients such as peptides and vitamin A.
- Avoid smoking.
- Invest in professional skin treatments which stimulate collagen production.
