SCARRING

Injuries, surgery, burns, and scalds can cause scars upon any surface of a person’s body.

Scarring

Injuries, surgery, burns, and scalds can cause scars upon any surface of a person’s body.

This defect can understandably affect a person’s self-confidence, as scar tissue can, in some cases be a dominant unsightly feature.

To overcome and balance the scarring, a person’s body will naturally produce additional collagen, this process causes the surface texture to change and a wound will appear and become raised, this will be presented with a deep red colour, during the healing process.

At Aesthetics of Liverpool we have a range of treatments that can reduce the appearance of scar tissue. For more information on the best treatment for you, please book a no obligation appointment with one of our highly trained clinicians.

Types of Scars

Flat / pale scars

Flat / Pale Scars appear as an aggressive dark red but eventually, develop into flat lines or marks following a period of two years.

Hypertrophic scars

Hypertrophic scars are raised and remain the colour red for many years, they eventually darken in colour when finally healed.

Keloid scars

When excess raised scar tissue is formed at the site of a wound, a further skin condition is created. This condition is medically referred to as Keloid scarring.

Atrophic (pitted / ice pick) scars

Damaged structures under the skin created by acne or chicken pox lead to a scar with a deep sunken appearance, often being referred to as ice pick scarring.

Contracture scars

Contracture scarring is caused by the skin shrinking and tightening, which can restrict movement at the site. These are often referred to as burn scars.
