What can I expect from a Radio Frequency treatment?

Radiofrequency is all about stimulating your own collagen production. Collagen is essential for the skin to look firm, bouncy and youthful. As we age we start to produce less collagen naturally resulting in sagging skin.

During radio frequency treatment, a machine is used to heat the skin to between 38-40 degrees. This hand-held device will be glided across your chosen treatment area, then, ultrasound technology from the device is used to penetrate the epidermis of the skin. This feels a lot like the heat from a hot stone facial massage if you’ve ever experienced this – you can feel the heat but it is a comfortable experience.

Radiofrequency causes the collagen fibres in the skin to contract, and also to produce new collagen and elastin. This process causes the skin to automatically tighten, resulting in a firmer appearance. Radiofrequency can also be used on the face to help fight signs of ageing, but when used for cellulite it is very effective for treating the abdomen, thighs, upper arms and back. It is usually recommended that you allow 30-60 minutes for the full treatment time.

what is radio frequency skin tightening

Radio Frequency is a highly reliable energy source (it has been used in several medical applications for almost 100 years) the heat generated through this treatment is highly controlled and solely directed at the targeted area for treatment. The handheld device allows the fat tissue to reach optimal temperatures faster. The fat cells can’t withstand the temperature and as a result, they start to break down and are naturally cleared by draining out through the lymphatic system.

Radio Frequency also has an immediate effect by tightening the skin. It also facilitates an improved appearance for both cellulite and stretch marks due to the fact it improves blood flow to the treated area.

What results can I expect?

Radio frequency (shortened to RF) will provide an immediate change in your skin’s appearance. This treatment also triggers a second process of new collagen production, leading to a significant tightening and firming of the skin that will last longer. RF has advantages over some other options on the market as it can penetrate deeper into the skin’s layers and is not affected at all by skin colour.

You will usually notice visible results after just one treatment. However, a course of 6-8 treatments (one per week) is recommended for the best results. After this, a further treatment every 4-6 weeks is recommended to maintain the results and keep your skin looking smooth, toned and youthful.

Overall skin will appear smoother, toned and more youthful.
