Everything You Need To Know About PDO Thread Lifts
Ageing is – sadly- an unavoidable fact of nature, as over time, our faces start to lose elasticity and wrinkles start to settle in. Losing collagen is a fact of biology and something that we must all accept eventually – but maybe not just yet. We’ve always wondered how celebrities stay so youthful, and it usually comes with a price tag bound to break the bank; however, with PDO thread lifts, anyone can turn back the clocks to feel more confident in youthful-looking skin. PDO threads have been around for a while now, starting in the 1980s, and they are made from a colourless polyester that breaks down in your body after approximately six months.
Nowadays, it is much easier to achieve the results you want, even if that’s with a bit of extra help. A thread lift is an excellent way to see results without the great expense and the risk of surgery. In addition, this virtually pain-free, minimally-invasive surgery is the best way to appear younger and happier, giving you that youthful look you’ve been searching for.
A thread lift is a minimally-invasive treatment designed to combat signs of ageing in the face and neck areas creating healthier, younger-looking skin.
Dissolvable PDO (polydioxanone) threads are safely and effectively inserted under the skin; you may feel a slight pinprick. The threads are initially secured around your temples or hairline, where they are most discreet. Then, using a blunt-ended needle called a cannula, the threads are advanced under the skin. These threads can then be tightened to help reinforce sagging skin, manipulating it back into a taut position, giving the skin a lifted and rejuvenated look.
So, unlike a surgical facelift wherein the surgeon removes loose skin, the PDO thread lift only suspends the loose skin by stitching it up. The treatment is ideal for those aged thirty to fifty who are experiencing mild to moderate signs of ageing. It is worth noting that your skin will be numbered to ensure you are in total comfort.
If this treatment sounds like something you might be interested in, then here’s a brief guide to how the procedure works:
- Your Specialist Doctor identifies areas that would need treatment – areas of sagging skin
- Local anaesthetic is applied to make the process pain free
- The PDO threads are extremely advanced. These threads are very fine and are identifiable by small barbs running along their lengths.
- The threads are shaped and moulded into place before being pulled back and tightened. The barbed structure of PDO threads attaches to the skin and effectively reinforces sagging areas.
- The threads are then trimmed and secured to make sure they are invisible underneath the skin.
Once the procedure is complete, you will see immediate results with skin looking younger and tighter, and you can expect to see final results in up to fourteen days.
Recovery and aftercare
Recovery is very minimal after a PDO thread lift; you may experience a little tenderness to the treated area for 24-48 hours after the procedure. At Aesthetics of Liverpool, we provide a full aftercare service where we are available at all times of the day to address any concerns. You will also receive an aftercare booklet detailing our top tips too.
Even after you receive treatment, your skin will continue to see results. During the healing process, your body will produce extra collagen – collagen is what keeps the skin firm and healthy- meaning that your skin will receive an overall boost to complexion and tone the skin simultaneously. When we reach our mid-twenties, our body naturally stops producing as much collagen, meaning that by the age of 70, we experience an 80% reduction in skin thickness, causing the skin to lose volume and sag. Therefore the extra collagen produced through the healing process will continue to tighten and tone the skin in the long run and help prevent skin sagging over time. Whilst the threads are in place, the body will remain in the healing process as it attempts to heal the sutures, as it is genetically wired to expel ‘unwanted’ objects in the dermis. Don’t worry, though; the sutures are so small that you will not feel them during this process.
The results of your thread lift will last for a number of years, depending on the client’s lifestyle; smoking, poor diet and lack of exercise will reduce the effectiveness of this treatment, for example. The PDO threads dissolve after around 12 months, and these will provide your body’s collagen production with a boost to help your skin remain taut and youthful. Of course, this also varies per person depending on metabolic rate, age and lifestyle. Thankfully, due to its non-invasive and pain-free nature, this means PDO thread lifts can be repeated if necessary.
As the procedure is not surgical, you can combine treatments such as Dermal Fillers to enhance results. This combination of treatments effectively lifts the face and plumps it, creating a fresher, younger complexion. Regardless, we are a CQC registered and regulated clinic. Undergoing a thread lift without this status will come with unnecessary risk. We are proud of our registration as it enables us to provide the best possible care and thread lift treatments for our clients.
