What is a Thread Lift Procedure?

Our skin is made up of different forms of protein, with collagen making up a third of all our bodies’ protein. Endogenous collagen is a natural protein that is found in all parts of our bodies, from our bones and muscles to our tendons and skin. It is this form of collagen which provides our skin with its strength, elasticity and structure, as well as other types of connective tissue. However, the older we get, our bodies gradually start to produce less and less collagen. By the time we’re around 70 years old, our skin has reduced in thickness by approximately 80%

This reduction of collagen in our skin means that our skin’s structural integrity declines. It is this structural decline which means the skin cannot support the tissue beneath. This skin is, therefore,  more vulnerable to a gravitational pull, which enables wrinkles to form. For women, their reduction in collagen synthesis is directly linked to the menopause. By the age of 60, a dramatic decline in your collagen levels is completely normal.

Until recently, the only way to combat the laxity of your skin was to undergo surgery with a traditional face-lift or, alternatively, use fillers to deposit Hyaluronic Acid into the cracks that form across your skin’s surface; creating a smooth surface. Now, however, there is a safer solution to combat sagging and skin rejuvenation- the thread-lift procedure.

A thread-lift procedure is a non-invasive form of facial rejuvenation where temporary sutures are used to produce a visibly lifted effect to your skin. Instead of surgically removing any loose skin, sutures are used to pull any back into a lifted, more youthful position. In turn, they are lifting and tightening the skin across the face. To achieve this, here at Thread Lift Experts, we offer several world-leading thread-lift treatments, but today we are going to address two.

Two Types of Thread-lift Treatments

The two thread-lift techniques we are going to talk about today are our Collagen Thread Lift and our new MINT Super Thread Lift.

A Collagen Thread Lift

Our Collagen Thread Lift promotes the new production of collagen and elastin through the process of healing; offering dramatic lifting results. Instead of a scalpel, this form of facial rejuvenation is achieved by our highly skilled and experienced clinicians pulling up loose skin using individual medical-grade surgical threads.

This procedure is designed for both men and women alike and is carried out to tighten the skin and build the structure around the jawline, eyebrows, neck and cheeks for a smoother, more youthful appearance.

As the threads lift the skin, it also affects the surrounding skin, due to its composition. Their moulded construction repositions the fatty tissues so that they do the utmost in plumping and rejuvenating the treated area through neocollagenesis. Our surgical threads are made from a protein-based substance which helps to relax the face’s surrounding tendons and muscles.

After the thread-lift procedure, the body is encouraged to start its natural healing process from the treated area being traumatised. The body’s blood flow is then increased in this affected area of the facial dermis, and from producing fibroblast cells during the healing, the production of new collagen is stimulated and banked.

This fresh dose of collagen can help to hydrate the skin causing it to thicken, especially when the signs of the skin sagging are still mild. For some time, this collagen stimulation is enough to prevent any deterioration by strengthening the skin and creating a voluminous look. Hence why a collagen thread lift is a fantastic procedure for anti-ageing, with scar minimising purposes.

A MINT Super Thread Lift

This thread-lift was the most-talked-about thread lifting procedure in the USA, and now its dramatic lifting results are available here.

Our MINT Super Thread Lift uses barbed threads which have been moulded in a unique design, allowing the thread lift to take definition to the next level. The barbed threads give the appearance of arrows and are used to hook onto a larger portion of skin tissue, producing the most naturally defined appearance in a three-dimensional fashion. The barbed thread has a much stronger lifting ability from its improved PDO material, and manufactured structure.

In doing so, the MINT Super Thread Lift repositions the fat and, consequently, gives the appearance of fuller, youthful-looking skin. Similarly to our Collagen Thread Lift, the healing process will cause the tissue cells to renew through collagens simulation.

The Risks of Thread-lift Treatments

With any procedure, there is always the risk of side effects. No treatment is without them, so you must be aware of the potential risks when considering a new form of treatment.

Compared to a traditional face-lift, however, thread-lift procedures are very low risk due to how minimally invasive they are. A thread-lift treatment can be carried out under local anaesthetic, rather than a general anaesthetic. This means the patient is quite able to drive or commute to their appointment unaided, and, consequently, look after themselves without additional help after their thread-lift operation.

Some patients will experience a little discomfort directly after the procedure as the local anaesthetic wears off, with some showing some swelling immediately after. The immediate side effects are expected to improve within two weeks.

For around a week after the treatment, the area around the sutures can be tender. This soreness can be easily relinquished with paracetamol. And some subtle bruising may occur a few days later. This being said, no strong pain medication is required, and the vast majority of patients will be able to return to their regular routine straight away, or by the next day.

The thread-lift procedure leaves virtually no scarring, severe bruising, bleeding or other complications due to its minimally invasive nature.

The Results

Thread-lift procedures come with instant improvements and visible enhancements to your skin’s texture. With natural lasting results, it is no surprise that they have become a popular procedure for facial rejuvenation.
