How Does Aesthetics Of Liverpool Guarantee Improvements To Acne Scarring

How Does Aesthetics Of Liverpool Guarantee Improvements To Acne Scarring?

Anyone who struggles with acne scarring knows how much it can take a toll on your confidence. Acne scars can be incredibly stubborn, and for most sufferers, there is no singular solution to ‘cure’ it. Depending on the severity of one’s acne scars, scarring can go away over time by way of a solid skincare routine; for others, however, blemishes may run so deep into their skin that they need treatments to combat the issue. The majority of people will find a combination of treatments helpful, and we will take you through each one we have on offer, from Skinpen and PRX-T33 to Collagen Mono Threads, Co2 Laser, and more.

At Aesthetics of Liverpool, we can guarantee that our expert dermatologists will tailor our treatments to best suit your skin and acne scars. They aim to give you the best possible results, helping your worries about your acne scars to be a thing of the past!

Creating A Solid Skincare Routine

Having a skincare routine, regardless of age and your skin condition is absolutely essential. The ins and outs of a skincare routine and the ingredients you need to look out for in your products will depend entirely on your skin type (dry, oily, combination) and the skin concerns you wish to address. Generally speaking, the three essentials in any skincare routine include a cleanser, toner, moisturiser, and sunscreen (SPF is a necessity).

If you are vulnerable to breakouts, thoroughly cleansing your face twice a day for at least 30-60 seconds is a must. Cleansers help to remove excess oil from your skin and keep your pores clear, aiding in blemish repair. The trick with cleansing your skin is to be as gentle and thorough as possible to be effective. For those who deal with acne, you should seek cleansers containing either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. If you wear makeup frequently, you should be double cleansing on a nightly basis, i.e. using a cleansing balm to remove the makeup and then going in with another cleanser on the make-up-free face to remove any excess oil, pollution, bacteria that has settled into the pores during the day.

Moisturiser is essential to hydrate the skin and keep any excess oil production at bay, as oil often equals clogged pores. With moisturisers, those with a gel or lotion consistency are usually the best for oily skin and won’t feel as heavy. A good rule of thumb is to invest in moisturisers that are oil-free or non-comedogenic. Your next step, SPF, is an essential product you need to be using to protect the skin from sunburn, ageing and UV rays. However, sunscreen is particularly beneficial to those who suffer from acne. If you’re utilising acne treatments and exfoliants regularly, this can make your skin more vulnerable to sun damage – this is known as photosensitivity. Instead, look for sunscreens specifically formulated for the face, as they will contain a lot less oil and feel lighter on the skin. SPF can also help reduce hyperpigmentation, which often exacerbates the appearance of acne scars.

As a part of your skincare routine, you can seek out a professional such as a doctor or dermatologist who can prescribe you acne treatments in gel, cream, and tablet form. If you are using acne treatments, make sure you apply the gel/cream after cleansing your face. Allow the product to really sink into the skin and follow up with your moisturiser and SPF.

PRX T33

PRX-T33, also known as a bio-revitalisation peel, is a skin tightening peel treatment that focuses on making the skin firmer without exfoliation. Originally developed as a treatment for children with scars, PRX T33 has become popular in treating scars from acne, facelift procedures, sagging skin, and stretch marks. Although the primary function of PRX T33 is tightening the skin, it can work wonders for improving and evening out the texture and appearance of acne scars. This treatment gives immediate and flawless results, all without the invasion of needles.

PRX-T33 is made up of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), kojic acid, and trichloroacetic acid (TCA). H2O2 aids in the healing of wounds, TCA is a chemical agent known for peeling and treating damaged skin, and kojic acid is an extremely effective tool for brightening and depigmenting the skin. These chemicals work together to penetrate the dermis rapidly; as the chemicals enter the skin, they encourage a process of gentle rejuvenation. This treatment is simple, effective, painless and requires absolutely no downtime. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and instantly graces the skin with immense hydration and radiance.

Co2 Laser

This laser treatment is designed specifically to manage acne scars. Laser treatment focuses on minimising the appearance of acne scars by breaking up the scar tissue, encouraging new healthy skin cells to appear and replace said scar tissue.

The procedure is pretty straightforward; the heat from the laser will remove the top layer of your skin, the layer that holds prominent scarring, and this will increase blood flow. The blood flow that is drawn from the areas where acne scars reside will be free of inflammation, making the scars much less visible as the skin heals. Depending on how many treatments you require, the type of laser used, and the condition of your skin, side effects may vary. Swelling, redness and pain can be expected in the areas where the laser is applied. The redness can take up to 10 days to subside, and any discomfort should disappear within the first hour or two post-treatment. Although this won’t completely eliminate your acne scars, they will drastically reduce their visibility.

Collagen Mono Threads

Collagen Mono Thread Lifts are all about skin rejuvenation. Mono threads are long, smooth PDO threads that focus on stimulating the body’s natural healing process and encouraging skin rejuvenation from the inside out. Unlike barbed threads, these threads are not inserted to lift the skin. Instead, these stimulate the body’s collagen production, leading the skin to self-improving its own texture. Mono threads are particularly successful in can aid in troublesome areas like the cheeks, where acne scars typically reside. In 4 to 6 weeks after the treatment, your pores will be minimised, scarring reduced, and your skin should have an overall plump and even appearance. The procedure is non-surgical, minimally evasive, and very safe when carried out by a qualified clinician.

Skinpen

The first FDA-approved micro-needling device, Skinpen, is extremely effective for improving acne scars and possibly the best treatment out there. During its clinical trial, 90% of patients reported seeing outstanding results six months post-treatment.

In terms of how the Skinpen works, the tool creates minor ‘injuries’ to trigger the body’s natural wound-healing process. Your immune system is then activated by the micro-injuries and starts to remodel the skin, producing new cells. This procedure is minimally-invasive, and most treatments take around 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. Like the majority of treatments, you will need several rounds. How many you need will be personal to your skin and your goals. All of this can be discussed with the professional carrying out your treatment, who will tailor everything to your needs and goals.

Morpheus8

Morpeheus8 is an advanced radiofrequency micro-needling treatment that helps repair damaged, scarred and uneven skin. The Morpheus8 device is used to penetrate the skin, creating subdermal micro-wounds. Waves of radiofrequency energy will be sent out from the device, and the combination of technology will encourage the skin to undergo a process of healing. As a part of the healing process, the skin will produce new cells, including collagen.

The treatment itself shouldn’t be too painful, and at worst, you should experience minor discomfort. Before the Morpheus8 device is applied to the face, an anaesthetic will be provided to alleviate any pain throughout the treatment. Due to the heat from the radio frequency, you may experience a slight prickling sensation, but this should not be painful, and it will subside several hours after. If you have mild acne scarring, you can expect to need 1-2 treatments, and those with severe acne will need up to 4. There is no downtime for this treatment, although you may want to avoid social events around the procedure to allow yourself to recharge. The results of this treatment are permanent so that you can say goodbye to the burden of acne scars!

TCA Cross

TCA Cross is an ice-pick method treatment that involves the application of 90% trichloroacetic acid (TCA). TCA is injected into the scarred areas/enlarged pores via a fine 30G needle. This encourages the production of new collagen and elastin, elevating and narrowing the ice-pick scars. Depending on the skin type, this treatment is usually followed by a laser treatment such as Co2. This treatment can require up to 6 sessions at 4-6 week intervals to give optimal results. A prominent side effect of this treatment is prolonged redness, which can last up to 3 months post-treatment. The procedure can be as short as 5 minutes or as long as 30 and is pretty tolerable. Patients can expect to experience a mild burning and prickling sensation throughout the procedure, which is normal and bearable. If you are looking for a treatment that offers permanent results, TCA Cross may be the one for you!

All of these treatments have their own benefits, and there will be scenarios where we recommend a combination of treatments depending on the severity of your scarring. There are so many options available to you when it comes to getting rid of acne scars, and it can be overwhelming when you’re not sure which route to take.
