Firstly, what causes fine lines and wrinkles?
Our body is made up of a variety of different proteins, the most prominent of which is collagen. Collagen accounts for a third of all the protein in our body and our skin, it is the endogenous collagen which provides it with its strength, elasticity and structure. As we age, our body starts to produce lower amounts of collagen and, unfortunately, this can have a dramatic effect on our skin.
Without the rejuvenation of collagen, our skin’s structural integrity weakens, and it is no longer able to support the tissue beneath the surface. In desperate need of its strength, our skin begins to give in to the constant gravitational pull on its surface, coupled with the weight of the tissue beneath; our skin begins to stretch and sag. It is this movement and sagging, which causes fine lines and wrinkles to appear. Over time, the effects worsen as our bodies’ collagen levels drop lower.
By the time we’re around 70 years old, our skin will have reduced in thickness by approximately 80%.
Dynamic and Static Wrinkles
If only lower-collagen levels were the only factor. Our fine lines and wrinkles can also become more pronounced by alternate causes, such as muscle movement, environmental and lifestyle factors. As we laugh, frown or squint in our day-to-day life, our facial muscles relax and contract accordingly. When we considered this movement, in addition to how much our faces are exposed to the sun or our smoking habits, these lines and wrinkles can start to deepen.
Wrinkles can be categorised into two groups, dynamic wrinkles and static wrinkles. Wrinkles and lines that occur temporarily while our muscles are moving are known as dynamic wrinkles. For example, wrinkles typically develop in a frown, across a forehead and in crow’s feet around the eyes. Laughter lines are another example. Static wrinkles are the next phase. These wrinkles are now visible when your face is resting.
Whilst dynamic wrinkles can be reversed and even completely smoothed out through treatments, this is not the case with static wrinkles. However, all is not lost. Static wrinkles can be dramatically improved and, through our collagen-induced treatments, your skin’s ageing process can be slowed down too.
When it comes to possible treatment options for wrinkles and fine lines, there are several options to choose from. Here at Aesthetics of Liverpool, we have a range of procedures available that also help to prevent them in future. There are treatments designed to combat wrinkles using anti-ageing injectable products, such as wrinkle relaxing and dermal fillers. But, there are also options designed to encourage collagen production and reverse the natural ageing process, such as Laser Resurfacing, Medical Microdermabrasion, Hydra Facial, Co2 Laser, E-light, Skin Peels and our very own Precision Lift Skin Pen.
At Aesthetics of Liverpool, we even offer thread lift treatments to help improve your fine lines and wrinkles. Through both our Collagen Thread Lift and our MINT Super Thread Lift, we can give your skin a much-needed boost of collagen to help kick start your body’s natural production.
As we grow older, the skin tissue and fat on our faces start to sag due to the gravitational pull on our weaker structures. Our MINT Super Thread Lift is an excellent skin rejuvenation procedure as well as a lifting treatment. By inserting MINT threads into the area wish to the treatment, a clinician can achieve 1 to 2 cm of upward, backward traction. This is due to the innovative barbed thread.
The barbed threads used in a MINT Super Thread Lift give the appearance of arrows and allows the thread with a larger surface area to attach to the skin, giving it a strainer lifting ability. Also, due to its design, the barbed thread produces the most naturally defined appearance, working in a three-dimensional fashion.
Both our thread lift treatments, however, promote cellular renewal by collagen stimulation and neovascularisation. This helps to refine your skin’s texture, reducing fine lines and increasing elasticity. Your skin will also be tightened, due to the thread contracting your fat tissues, enhancing a youthful complexion and removing any surface irregularities.
