Skinpen: The Gold Standard Micro-Needling Device At Aesthetics Of Liverpool

If you are looking to reduce fine lines, creases and facial scars, or you may wish to enhance the volume of your face, micro-needling could be the perfect treatment for you! However, we know how intimidating a procedure can seem when you don’t know enough about it.

With this in mind, we have put together a guide that will take you through everything you need to know about our Skinpen micro-needling treatment. From reading this guide, you should be able to decide with micro-needling is the best treatment for you.

What is Micro-Needling?

If you are unaware of the effective results of micro-needling, it can seem daunting on introduction. That being said, we are here to reassure you that micro-needling is a non-surgical procedure.

Micro-needling involves pricking the skin’s surface with minute sterilised needles to generate the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. Once these proteins have been stimulated, the epidermis will be significantly improved. In addition, collagen and elastin help reinstate the dermis’ structural integrity, creating a firm and plump appearance while enhancing the epidermis’ texture and overall complexion. On the whole, micro-needling is a very convenient procedure, costing significantly less and having a quicker recovery time than laser treatments.

Aesthetic of Liverpool’s Skinpen Treatment: How Does it Work?

As we age, the body stops producing as much collagen. Collagen fibres are the infrastructure responsible for elastin and hyaluronic acid, two things the skin needs to stay firm, hydrated and ‘elastic.’ When the needles penetrate the skin, they make minor abrasions that allow the skin to produce new collagen-rich tissue; by creating a minor trauma, the body kickstarts its natural healing process that makes more collagen.

In producing more collagen, the skin resurfaces looking younger and feeling firmer. In terms of the actual procedure, the process will be conducted by a dermatology professional who will use a pen-like tool – the Skinpen. This FDA-approved, micro-needling tool will then be moved evenly along the skin, leaving a pinprick-like feeling in its wake. Once the process is complete, your doctor will apply a soothing treatment or a serum to ease any discomfort. Altogether, the treatment can take approximately 30 minutes, depending on the client and the size of the treatment area.

How Safe is a Skinpen Micro-Needling Procedure?

Those wanting to undergo a micro-needling treatment will be pleased to know that this procedure is very safe. The Skinpen is the only Class II micro-needling device with the FDA’s approval. Unlike laser treatments, micro-needling comes with less risk and a quicker recovery time due to the non-surgical nature of the treatment. The main prerequisite to having this procedure is good health. If you are healthy and have some skin concerns that haven’t taken well to home remedies or other cosmetic procedures, micro-needling could be a perfect fit for you.

Who is Suitable for the SkinPen Micro-Needling Treatment?

Micro-needling is an incredibly effective treatment for those battling with skin complaints such as acne scars, age spots, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, reduced skin elasticity, large pores and other types of scarring. Micro-needling is not only appropriate for facial concerns; it can also treat stretch marks on other parts of the body.

It’s worth noting, however, that you may not be the right candidate for this procedure if you are pregnant, have open wounds, or struggle with severe skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. This is simply due to the method of creating a miniature wound for the body’s natural processes to heal.

The Results of Skinpen Micro-Needling

It’s important to note that, like many procedures, micro-needling does come with some possible side effects. One of the main side effects to be aware of is redness due to the repeated pricking of the skin. However, it is normal and not a cause for concern; this will subside quickly. Our professional clinician carrying out your procedure will apply a soothing treatment after, and as long as you follow the aftercare, you will continue to minimise this redness.

Following the procedure, your face will be red for a few days, and you may experience some discomfort or minor bruising. As your face heals, the skin can be prone to peeling and can get flaky. There is a risk of infection if germs enter the needle’s wounds, but infection rates are very low. If the treatment has been done correctly and hygiene is made a priority, this is not something you should be concerned about.

In terms of the aftermath, as we have said, micro-needling is by no means an invasive surgery, so most clients can resume their daily tasks as normal. Of course, everyone is different, but generally speaking, it should not prevent you from going about your day. The main thing to prioritise post-treatment is SPF; your skin will be highly sensitive to the sun, so ensure to protect it by applying sunscreen.

Before and After Our SkinPen Treatment

When it comes to results, you should see them within the first few weeks after the procedure. Your skin will respond rather quickly to the treatment and will work hard to produce new tissue, so within weeks you will be looking rejuvenated! For long-lasting results, you will need multiple treatments for maintenance or other treatments that complement the micro-needling. Ultimately, it is entirely up to you, and what you do after the first treatment depends on your goals. Once you have established your goals, your doctor can advise you on how to proceed.
