Top 10 Double Chin Reduction Treatments

Top 10 Double Chin Reduction Treatments

Did you know a double chin is not necessarily a sign of weight gain or obesity? In fact, a double chin can develop from many factors; common reasons include ageing, genetics, diet and even posture.

A double chin refers to an excess layer of skin found around the jaw. The sagging nature gives the face a softer and rounder appearance and, therefore, they are often assumed to be caused by weight gain. However, reducing and getting rid of your double chin doesn’t mean you have to hit the gym. Despite there being a range of exercises promoted for targetting fat under the chin, non-surgical aesthetic procedures enable you to achieve a sculpted, defined jawline in a fraction of the time.

At Aesthetics of Liverpool, we offer a range of double chin reduction treatments, all offering you a helping hand to redefine your face shape. We have put together an all-you-need-to-know guide on our top five double chin reduction treatments. Keep reading to discover the option that’s right for you.

How can the ageing process cause a double chin to form?

Unfortunately, our natural ageing process can cause double chins or ‘submental fullness’ to occur. As we grow older, our body reduces the amount of collagen and elastin it produces. These proteins give our skin strength and elasticity, creating a firm, plump appearance where the skin is tight to the face. Therefore, as the amount of collagen and elastin reduces, our skin naturally loses these characteristics.

With the dermis now weakened, the subdermal fat below the surface gravitates downwards. This movement forms a softer layer of skin visible below the chin, forming the double chin.

It is important to note that double chins can be down to genetics. Whether from your Mum’s or Dad’s side of the family, the elasticity of your skin can be inherited. So if genetically, your skin is more inclined to sag, a double chin will likely form.

Similarly, poor posture can weaken the muscle’s under your chin and within your neck. Over time, this can cause the elasticity in your skin here to reduce as the muscles are not used enough. Consequently, your skin will begin to sag and create a double chin.

Endolift is our new, revolutionary skin tightening treatment that can effectively reduce your double chin. Using state of the art laser technology, Endolift is able to penetrate deeper into your skin. Unlike previous laser treatments, this LaASEmaR device works safely at a specific wavelength of 1470nm – the device is FDA approved. What all this means is that Endolift is a non-invasive, laser-based liposuction treatment that targets both the dermis and epidermis.

Endolift uses the laser’s energy to create micro-tunnels under the skin’s surface. Then, micro-optical fibres can easily be inserted under the skin into the superficial hypodermis. When the laser is passed across, it is able to melt away the fat that spills from these tunnels. Consequently, neocollagenesis occurs, and the skin retracts and reduces the appearance of sagging skin underneath the chin. With no need for incisions or anaesthetic and long-lasting results, it is no wonder this revolutionary treatment is top of our list when it comes to double chin reduction treatments.

Morpheus8 is one of the world’s most popular treatments, so it is no surprise that it is frequently used by celebrities. It combines the effective powers of radiofrequency and micro-needling to tighten loose, sagging skin.

Micro-needling has been used for years thanks to its effective production of collagen and elastin. Morpheus8 is an advanced micro-needling treatment whereby the device penetrates to a depth of 4mm, creating micro-injuries. These tiny punctures replicate a trauma and kickstart the body’s natural healing process. This process produces more collagen and elastin proteins, responsible for revitalising and tightening the skin, reducing the appearance of a double chin. However, Morpheus8 also uses RF energy simultaneously. RF energy emits a deep heat that further promotes the body’s natural healing. This added collagen production tightens the fat layer as much as possible and tones your jawline.

Fat Dissolving Injections

Fat-dissolving injections is another minimally invasive yet effective procedure producing long-lasting results. This treatment is ideal for that stubborn pocket of fat under your chin. They are made up of different plant-based components in a lab. At Aesthetics of Liverpool, we favour the Aqualyx treatment. Aqualyx® is a gel-based solution developed for the non-surgical reduction of localised fat under the skin. This solution is biocompatible and biodegradable. It is able to dissolve the outer cell membrane of fat cells, causing the cells to burst and break. The content of the fat cells is banished from the body through macrophages – found naturally in the body’s immune system – and disposed of through the lymphatic system. It is a non-invasive treatment with no recovery time, allowing you to return to your daily routine.

Collagen Twist Threads

At Aesthetics of Liverpool, we offer a wide range of different thread lift treatments; however, we recommend a Collagen Twist Thread when it comes to reducing double chins. Twisted threads have a unique coil-spiral running down the length of the PDO thread, significantly increasing their surface area. This allows the threads to connect with a large proportion of the treatment area, enabling more loose skin to be lifted into a tighter position.

As PDO threads dissolve over time, they allow the sagging skin to be supported in its new, lifted position while the body’s natural healing process kicks in. As the body increases its natural production of collagen and elastin, the threads hold the skin in place while the proteins begin to repair the skin in situ. This treatment is also non-surgical, removing many of the risks associated with surgical options.

Super MINT Thread Lifts

When it comes to reducing double chins, we can also recommend our Super MINT Thread Lift. The immense lifting ability of this treatment is achieved with barbed PDO threads, creating a mechanical lift while stimulating the lipolysis effect.

Barded threads have miniature hooks running in a helical pattern along their length; these greatly increase their surface area, meaning more surfaces connect with the tissue. Therefore, when the threads are pulled back and upward, they can achieve a more dramatic lift that is noticeable instantly. Similar to Collagen Twist Thread Lifts, the process of inserting the threads also stimulates the body’s natural healing process, increasing collagen production. Furthermore, once the PDO threads dissolve, the new collagen will naturally tighten the skin into its new, lifted position.

ULTRAcelQ is a 5th generation High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatment that works by creating thermal wounds. This sounds pretty intimidating but rests assured it is painless with no recovery time. Like micro-needling, HIFU creates minor injuries that stimulate the body’s healing response, producing more collagen and elastin. In addition, the heating element to HIFU also causes cell necrosis, further accelerating the body’s healing process while removing fat cells in the targetted area.

The production of collagen and elastin causes fat cells to contract, giving the skin a tightened appearance. When this treatment is used to reduce double chins, they help to create a defined jawline. This is down to its revolutionary ability to reach deeper into the dermis, specifically the SMAS layer (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System). Before now, this layer of the dermis has only been reached by surgical procedures. Its ability to

Cryolipolysis is more commonly known as fat freezing. It is a non-surgical fat reduction procedure that uses cold conditions to diminish fat deposits in target areas – in this case, double chin. The process involves targetting stubborn fat pockets that do not shift from diet and exercise. The fat cells are frozen, which effectively kills and breaks them down in the process before they are then expelled naturally from the body. This procedure is non-invasive with no recovery time.

FORMA offers another non-invasive, pain-free double chin reduction treatment. Using a subdermal heating applicator, radiofrequency waves can be emitted into the skin to remodel the skin and tissue. The FORMA device allows radiofrequency to travel via electrodes at controlled temperatures. We use the state-of-the-art Inmode FORMA device with a built-in ‘cut-off’ temperature gauge. This feature can register when the radiofrequency energy has reached the recommended skin temperature.

FORMA is ideal for remodelling tissue in smaller areas, such as under the chin. The energy waves penetrate deep into the epidermis, improving the appearance of the dermis while stimulating collagen production to help rejuvenate the epidermis. With more collagen protein, the area will benefit from an influx of tightening properties, seeing the area’s structural integrity is greatly enhanced.

Using more technology from Inmode, both AccuTite and FaceTite aim to improve face laxity using the non-surgical method of radiofrequency. The treatments are very similar; however, they focus on different devices. AccuTite simply uses a smaller device than FaceTite, enabling it to be suitable for smaller treatment areas. The AccuTite device allows for more control to be given on a client’s double chin if this is required.

Both treatments use radiofrequency to emit heat energy into the dermis, allowing for fat coagulation and tissue remodelling. Simultaneously, the body’s natural healing process to be stimulated. This increase of collagen and elastin tights loose and sagging skin, resulting in a tighter appearance while improving the skin’s structural integrity beneath the surface.

Under Chin Cavitation

Cavitation is another non-invasive procedure targeting and breaking down unwanted fat using ultrasound. These waves are aimed at fat cells, putting them under pressure until they liquidise. The fatty liquid that remains is then removed via the liver. Despite the fat cells being exposed to immense pressure, the treatment is non-invasive and non-surgical! The ultrasound waves penetrate down into the skin without causing any damage to the surrounding skin. The sensation of the ultrasound device is best described as a slight warmth for most, but only while the device is applied.

After only one session, most clients can expect to see a 1 to 5 cm lift! However, we recommend around 6-8 sessions for best results, although our specialist clinicians will assess your condition and make recommendations bespoke to your circumstances.
