What is Laser Tattoo Removal?
Tattooing is an ancient practice, in fact, the first tattoos date back to over 5,000 years ago. Each tattoo can mean something different to everyone. They can be life-changing, an expression of art or a dedication to a loved one, and, to most people, their ink holds a lot of meaning. However, in life, our tastes change often and many may find that tattoos they once loved have now lost their attraction. It could be a name of a partner who is now an ex, or an image of something you’ve come to dislike over the years. For some, a tattoo may have even been a drunken decision or they have found that it is misspelt or just doesn’t look right on them any longer. Regardless of the reason, thankfully laser tattoo removal can help people to say goodbye to those unwanted tattoos for good so they never have to see the tattoo again.
While some tattoos you might love and want forever, there are a few that could haunt you daily, and that you are in desperate need to remove for good. Read on to learn more about laser tattoo removal and how it can help erase those mistakes you’d rather forget.
Why Laser Tattoo Removal?
People are not alone in wanting to get their tattoos removed. There are so many reasons an individual might want to undo their ink and for celebrities it is no different. For celebrities it is notoriously hard to stay out of the spotlight when it comes down to tattoos; Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and Charlie Sheen are amongst the celebrities that have undergone tattoo removal and, we certainly cannot forget the iconic moment of Katie Price getting a cross tattooed through Peter Andre’s name on her wrist (which she then later removed). There is no shame in changing your mind or moving on with your life and removing a tattoo shouldn’t be seen as a negative. It is simply a choice about your skin and how you now want it to look.
As well as simply deciding you no longer want a particular tattoo, people often decide to remove tattoos for a future job, or maybe if the previous tattoo artist didn’t do an excellent job and it now looks faded or not up to the standard of their other ink. No matter who you are or when your tattoo was done, there are many reasons why people may be looking to get it removed which is why we offer tattoo removal here at our Liverpool clinic.
Laser Tattoo Removal: What Actually Is It?
Laser tattoo removal first become popular in the 1990’s, and is now the number one treatment to remove unwanted tattoos. The process works by passing a short pulse of high powered laser light through the skin, which then shatters the tattoo ink particles. The particles are usually too big for the bodies immune system to break down naturally, so the laser makes them small enough for the body to dispose of.
The treatment time and number of sessions will vary from client to client, with a single session lasting between 5 and 40 minutes depending on the tattoo size. Slight discomfort and stinging sensations are sometimes reported by clients, however, as you undergo more treatments both the tattoo and the pain fade. Certain parts of the body can be more sensitive to others like the ankles or elbows, but a topical anaesthetic can be applied to help minimise the discomfort and it is worth it, in the end, to be able to say goodbye to that unwanted tattoo for good.
What To Expect Post Treatment
Redness of the skin is common post-treatment, but it usually fades quickly. In rare occasions hyper-pigmentation (the lightening or darkening of the skin) can occur through the treatment and remain for longer, often taking the skin 6-12 months to return to normal. It’s usually not too noticeable, although it is more common in people with darker skin tones. The lasers we use at Aesthetics of Liverpool are only on the skin for a short amount of time, so there is a smaller chance of lasting damage to the skin.
It is vital that the skin is well cared for post-treatment to avoid the risk of infection. The area where the laser is used needs to be considered as a minor burn and shouldn’t be picked at and blisters shouldn’t be popped. Following all the after-care instructions you will be given by your practitioner are essential.
There are many reasons why someone may want to remove a tattoo. Maybe it brings about bad memories, perhaps it doesn’t look good or, you simply just need it gone for work.
